a Jewish presence in the City of St. Louis
For over 21 years “The Joint Venture” was a dialogue and community action initiative between Central Reform Congregation (CRC) and Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church. One of our premier events has been our annual combined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration held in January the week before the MLK National Holiday.
“The Joint Venture” body at its October meeting voted to extend our programs and dialogue out into the greater St. Louis region. We decided that each year we would pair with a different faith community and throughout the year we would work together for the betterment of our shared St. Louis community.
We chose as our working partner for 2015 Christ The King United Church Of Christ in Florissant www.christthekingucc.org Their pastor is Reverend Traci Blackmon who, along with CRC’s Rabbi Susan Talve and Rabbi Randy Fleisher have been extensively involved in building community understanding and action around the issues which Ferguson has made very visible. Reverend Blackmon is serving as a member of the Ferguson Commission appointed by Missouri Governor Nixon.
Our MLK program will include time to pray, to learn, to reflect and to share as we build the relationships needed to heal and move forward as a stronger more just region. Our two choirs are working together to provide us the power of musical inspiration, a long time hallmark of our MLK Services. Key aspects of the program are still evolving so check back here to learn more.
This will be a moving and important gathering in our St. Louis region so we encourage your attending along with your family and friends. We especially want to encourage the attendance of our youth and young adults. Please accept our invitation and come dressed comfortably.
